Reauthorizing and Refilling a Prescription with No Repeats Remaining

When the pharmacy receives a prescription for a medication that is already on the patient’s file, the previous record should be refilled with the new prescription. This ensures that all prescriptions for the same drug remain together.

To refill a prescription that has no repeats with a new prescription:

  1. Search for and select the patient.
  2. Select the Profile tab.
  3. Select the prescriptions that need to be refilled.
  4. Select the Refill button.

    The Ready Time window appears.
  5. Enter the appropriate Ready Time.
  6. Select OK. The Rx Detail window appears.
  7. Validate that the prescriber is correct
    • If it is a different prescriber, the prescriber information needs to be changed. To learn more, see Doctor Change.
  8. In the QA field, enter the new authorized quantity and select the tab button on the keyboard.
    • The Rx Detail status is updated to Rx: ReAuth.
    • The QD field is updated to 0 (zero).
  9. In the Qty field, enter the quantity being dispensed.
  10. Verify remaining information.
  11. Select Fill to process the prescription. A validation message appears to confirm that existing refills will be void due to Piggyback rules.
  12. Return to the patient’s Profile tab.
  13. Select the prescription(s) that were refilled in the previous steps.
  14. Scan all appropriate documentation to the prescription record.
